Leesville with the Revs Chris Welch John Littleton and Ed Basco officiating Burial will follow in the Comrade Cemetery in Temple Visitation will be held from 8 am until time of service today in the funeral home Blackwell died riday Dec 31 in Leesville He was a native of Hutton and retired from the Vernon Parish school system as a bus driver after 30 yeats He was also a retired farmer He was a former Vernon Parish Police Jury member for Ward 6 He was a deacon at Comrade Baptist Church and the ree dom Rest Baptist Church and a past mason Survivors include his wife Mary Chance Blackwell of Rosepine three sons Gerald Blackwell of Pickering Norman Blackwell of Ana coco and Ronny Blackwell of Leesville one daughter Evelyn Cowl ing of Mansfield 19 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the or the charity of your choice Dorothy Engrum uneral services for Dorothy Mae Engrum 70 of DeRidder will be held at noon Monday Jan 3 in the Sweet Home Baptist Church in DeRidder with the Rev Elbert Cooksey officiating Burial will follow in the Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder under the direction of Myers Colonial uneral Home of DeRidder Visitation will be from 6 9 pm today Jan 2 in the funeral home Engrum died at 10:30 pm Monday Dec 27 in the St Hospital in Lake Charles Engrum was a native of Stonewall but lived in the DeRidder area most of her life She was a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church where she served as an usher Engrum was also a member of East ern Golden Sheaf 55 and of the Heroines of Jericho She was em ployed by the DeRidder Clinic and was a nurses aide at Beauregard Memorial Hospital for over 30 years Survivors include her husband Calvin Engrum Jr of DeRidder eight daughters Cynthia St Romain Lisa Engrum Crosley and Stephanie Engrum all of DeRidder Verlyn Jones and Reda Engrum of New Llano Myra Engrum of New Orleans Dersel Green of Ar lington Texas and Jennifer Simmons of Shreveport four sons Jarvis Engrum of residence She was a native and lifelong resident of the Leesville Vernon Parish area She was a member of the White Park Church of Christ and a homemaker She was preceded in death by her son Kevin Kay and Lanell Johnson both of Beaumont Texas and Gelena Bossier of Bryan Texas 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren Louisiana clings to 22nd spot NEW ORLEANS (AP) Louisiana remained the 22nd largest state in estimates released this week but Alabama is creeping clos er and could push Louisiana to 23rd in the 2000 Census population stayed fairly flat between July 1998 and July 1999 increasing by 9277 residents or 02 percent That is well short of the Southern average of 12 percent and well below growth rate of 04 percent according to the Census Bureau figures The latest numbers show Louisiana with a population of 4372035 only 2173 more than Alabama Colorado which is ranked 24th had a one year growth rate of 22 percent closing to within 315000 of Louisiana Louisiana has ranked 22nd since 1996 when it gave up the 21st spot to fast growing Arizona Despite the flat growth Louisiana expected to lose another congressional seat from the reapportionment that will follow the 2000 Census Analysts said the state likely will continue with the seven House seats it has had since 1992 when it lost one seat Arizona and Texas each would gain two seats while New York and Pennsylvania each would lose two if current population trends continue into next year The Census Bureau also released population estimates for major metropolitan areas It estimated that the 1998 population for New Orleans area was 1309445 up 1318 from the year before It ranked as the 34th largest metropolitan area slipping from its No 31 ranking in 1990 Over the eight year period covered by
